Only the myopic won’t have seen this coming – Christine McVie has rejoined Fleetwood Mac as a permanent member.
Back in September, McVie performed live with Fleetwood Mac at London’s O2 – her first appearance with her former band in 15 years. The singer and multi-instrumentalist subsequently spoke to The Guardian about her desire to return to the fold, saying, “I miss them all. If they were to ask me I would probably be very delighted…but it hasn’t happened so we’ll have to wait and see.”
It’s now been confirmed that McVie’s self-imposed retirement has come to an end. Drum goliath Mick Fleetwood broke the news at concert in Hawaii last night, saying, “This is the worst kept secret there is, but Christine McVie will be rejoining Fleetwood Mac”.
How things change: in December 2012, Stevie Nicks was quoted saying that “there’s no more a chance of [a McVie reunion] happening than an asteroid hitting the Earth.” Footage of that September reunion is available to watch below. Fleetwood Mac featured in our recent rundown of acts likely to headline Glastonbury 2014 (although Michael Eavis seems to disagree).
