FACT mix 420 doesn’t, alas, come from a pair of dumb stoners.
Instead, we’ve handed our weekly slot to Southern Hospitality, the label and podcast series producing some of the best hip-hop mixtapes on the web. From artist-focused sets like The Mustard Factory – a guide to minimal rachet standard-bearer DJ Mustard – to snapping sex soundtracks and spotlights on regional movements and scenes, there’s a good chance we listen to more of this duo’s podcasts than we do anyone else’s.
Southern Hospitality isn’t just a mix series, however: Davey Boy Smith and Rob Pursey have released music by Beatking, Danny Brown & Darq E Freaker, Yung Nation and more on the Southern Hospitality label, and their clubnight, Player’s Ball, turns three this month. It also goes without saying that if you’re a DJ with even a slight interest in hip-hop, Davey Boy’s mail-outs are essential.
Pursey and Smith will be celebrating their birthday at South London’s Plan B on January 24 for the duo’s biggest Player’s Ball event yet, and to get you in the mood, their FACT mix focuses on the new wave of artists from one of hip-hop’s key cities, Atlanta. Young Thug, Migos, Que, Lil Silk and more feature.
