‘Tape throb’ purveyor takes it back to the ’80s.
Irish producer The Cyclist, born Andrew Morrison, burrowed his way into our fickle hearts last year with his charming debut album Bones In Motion. FACT’s Angus Finlayson called it “gauzy melodic techno… submerged in tape distortion”, but The Cyclist has a simpler name for it: tape throb.
Morrison’s next release pushes his warm, tweaky aesthetic in a different direction as part of Irish label All City’s ‘alias series’, which invites producers to deliver a record under another name. Operating as Buz Ludzha, Morrison’s new ‘Love Repetitive Rhythmics’ 12″ is a two-track beast offering straight-up “distorted ’80s house vibes”. More club-focused than his output as The Cyclist, both cuts still sound distinctly knackered, like they’ve been melting in a glovebox for a couple of decades.
‘Love Repetitive Rhythmics’ is out on vinyl and digitally on February 10, and is the first of three 12″s promised by Morrison on the All City label this year. [via JunoPlus]
