Karen Gwyer returns to No Pain In Pop for "mechanistic" 12", 'New Roof'

Woozy techno fabulist plots three-track return.

Michigan-born, London-based artist Karen Gwyer has announced her return to No Pain In Pop – the label that put out her stunning debut album Needs Continuum last year – for a three-track 12″ next month.

Billed as being “more mechanistic and weighty” than her LP, the techno-focused ‘New Roof’ comprises three tracks, one of which – ‘Missisissipippi’ – tops out at 17 minutes. It’s out on February 17.

Meanwhile, on January 30 Gwyer will head out on a European tour with musicians from the roster of Opal Tapes, which put out her Kiki The Wormhole cassette last year. She’ll be joined by Basic House, Dwellings&Druss, 1991 and Lumisokea, with line-ups varying each night – see below for the full list of dates.

Last year, Brooklyn audio-visual artist Torn Hawk released a “suite of deformations” based on Needs Continuum, which he titled Cowboys (For Karen). [via JunoPlus]
