Ninja Tune’s latest signing takes it to the club.
Fans of Kelis‘ ahead-of-the-curve previous album, the David Guetta-produced Flesh Tone, will know that her uniquely husky tones can gel with banging 4/4 shapes just as well as shuffling hip-hop breaks (even if that record was pushing the Eurohouse buttons a little harder than we might have liked).
Manchester DJ and producer and Purp & Soul boss Ben Pearce has just delivered a soaring extended remix of her new single ‘Jerk Ribs’ that shifts up a gear from the syncopated original, placing her vocal over house-y piano stabs and swooping risers for big, bold fun – listen below.
Last week Mount Kimbie dropped off their own, gorgeously subdued, remix of ‘Jerk Ribs’.
The ‘Jerk Ribs’ single and remixes are out on February 10 ahead of Kelis’ culinary-inspired new album Food, out on Ninja Tune on April 21.
