Had he not tragically passed away in 2006, legendary hip-hop producer J Dilla would have turned 40 today.

In his honor, his old Detroit crew Slum Village have shared the first single from their next album, which is fittingly backed with production from the great Dilla himself. Still held together by patriarch T3, the group now includes Dilla’s younger brother Illa J and rapper-producer Young RJ, and their new full-length should hit the shelves some time this spring.

Unsurprisingly it’s Dilla’s familiar dusty, soul-addled production that makes ‘Yes Yes’ worthy of your attention, and you can take a listen below.
