The week’s best vinyl releases

This year, we’ve brought in several new weekly features to FACT’s schedule.

Joining My Favourite Record and Forgotten Classics is The Week’s Best Vinyl Releases, a Saturday column by our friends at Soho record shop Phonica. It sounds obvious, but few people are onto great records as quickly as a great record store, and after years spent discovering gems in Phonica’s end of year lists, it made sense to give them a regular space on FACT. Every Saturday morning, they’ll run down the five vinyl records that you should grab this week.

1RawTHE RAW INTERPRETER
Mitigating Influences 12″
(Warm Sounds)

No-nonsense house imprint Warm Sounds do a wonderful line in deep, fuzzy club fare, and The Raw Interpreter’s latest – his fourth for the imprint – is another invigorating analogue bubblebath.

DBRoccaDANIELE BALDELLI & DJ ROCCA
Complotto Geometrico & Space Scribble (Andrew Weatherall / Prins Thomas / Luke Solomon Remixes) 12″
(Endless Flight)

All about the Weatherall remix, this one – a chugging Italo disco stunner. Prins Thomas and Luke Solomon put in a good showing, but the Rotters Golf Club daddy-o absolutely bosses it.

ICubeI:CUBE
Cubo Rhythm Trax 12″
(Versatile)

The Frenchman tips a beret to Willesden Dodgers’ Jive Rhythm Trax alias with this chiming, machine-tooled electro stonker. That gnarled Pilooski edit’s good grubby fun too.

Vakula003VAKULA
Bandura 003 12″
(Bandura)

You’ll know Vakula’s game by now – smoky deep house with Balkan flourishes and deep-fried drum programming – but even he’s not sounded quite this frazzled in a while. Off-kilter, on-point.

PhonicaVARIOUS
10 Years of Phonica 3xLP
(EM Records)

Yes, a back-slap, but a well-earned one. Legowelt, Trevor Jackson, Raudive and Henrik Schwarz are among those supplying unreleased goodies in honour of Phonica’s big 1-0. Raise a chalice!
