It looks as if Neneh Cherry is set to have an outstanding year.
Her new album Blank Project pits the genre-hopping Swede against superproducer Kieran Hebden (aka Four Tet) and instrumental duo Rocketnumbernine, and might be her most rewarding set of recordings to date.
Jumping into skeletal electronics one minute and chunky rapid-fire funk the next, it’s daring move for Cherry but one which should make her live performances even more of an essential experience. It’s fitting then that she’s been snapped up to play London’s Field Day festival this year, and she’s set to perform on Saturday June 7 in Victoria Park.
