A touch of acid from the Scouse hardware fan.
Liverpudlian techno craftsman John Heckle will follow up his excellent 2013 album Desolate Figures with a concise EP next month on local label Scenery.
The four-track Laid Away EP includes the acid-tinged title track and the crunchy lo-fi stomp of ‘DDT’, plus two ‘Laid Away’ remixes from analogue fancier Perseus Traxx and roughneck Italian duo Ksoul & Muteoscillator.
Desolate Figures almost passed us by last year, despite FACT reviewer Angus Finlayson praising its intensity and “widescreen quality” – but we caught up eventually, selecting it as one of the 10 best albums we missed in 2013.
Last month Heckle picked a rather surprising album for his go at our My Favourite Record feature – find out which fellow Northerners he put in the spotlight, and check out his FACT mix from 2011.
The Laid Away EP is out via Scenery Records on April 21 – hear clips from all the tracks below. [via Juno Plus]
