August and September will see Kate Bush make a long, long, long overdue return to the live stage.
Bush’s live appearances are very far and few between. Her last tour proper was 1979’s The Tour of Life, and she’s since made extremely sporadic standalone live appearances: an appearance at a 1982 Prince’s Trust concert, a 1986 Comic Relief show, and some guest spots in 1987. Beyond a cameo in a David Gilmour show in 2002, she’s abandoned the stage pretty much entirely.
That being the case, ready your jaws, people: the reclusive singer has just announced an extensive series of solo concerts. The singer will play a run of 15 dates at London’s Hammersmith Apollo; the full list of shows is below.
Update: A statement from ticket house Viagogo claims that Bush is set to overtake Beyonce as the fastest-selling female act of 2014. Searches for Bush have increased by 432% since the tour was announced this morning.
According to a spokesperson for viagogo: “Kate Bush has a rarity value because she hasn’t toured in 35 years. The massive demand to see her live looks set to make her the fastest selling female artist of 2014 on viagogo, leaving Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry trailing in her wake.”
Tickets go on sale on Friday March 28 here. Bush’s Hounds of Love featured very high indeed in our list of the 100 best albums of the 1980s.
