Latest volume of beats series showcases Detroit legend’s own production archive.
A year or so ago House Shoes, the Detroit DJ and producer best known for his intrinsic role as part of the city’s hip hop scene in the 90s and 00s, began a series of releases called The Gift. Each release showcases the production talents of a different, generally unknown or little known, hip hop producer in the format of a beat tape made available for free via Soundcloud.
In September he launched the Street Corner Music label, named after the Michigan record store where Shoes worked in his youth. The label has been issuing the series on vinyl and is also responsible for the Danny Brown Hot Soup re-issue forthcoming on Record Store Day.
Following releases from Dert, Nameless and Tuamie, volume 7 of The Gift comes from House Shoes, released on his birthday earlier this week. This volume collects “beats from 1997-2011 that I produced for Elzhi, Proof, Quelle, Danny Brown and others.” Dusty chops, hard drums and hypnotic loops await, and you can stream the collection via Soundcloud below while awaiting details of the download and vinyl.
Update: looks like there are issues with the set embed, so if it’s not showing up you can head to Shoes’ site where the stream seems to work.
