This year, we’ve brought in several new weekly features to FACT’s schedule.
Joining My Favourite Record and Forgotten Classics is The Week’s Best Vinyl Releases, a Saturday column by our friends at Soho record shop Phonica. It sounds obvious, but few people are onto great records as quickly as a great record store, and after years spent discovering gems in Phonica’s end of year lists, it made sense to give them a regular space on FACT. Every Saturday morning, they’ll run down the five vinyl records that you should grab this week.
LEGOWELT
Los Alamos Motel 12″
(PPU Records)
The pairing of Danny “Legowelt” Wolfers and DC vintage specialists People Potential Unlimited is a match made in synthesizer heaven. This must-buy has two cuts of interstellar house on the A-side and two downtempo dreamscapes on the B-side.
OMAR-S
Romancing The Stone 2×12″
(FXHE Records)
The Detroit club specialist follows up last year’s world-beating Thank You For Letting Me Be Myself with a double EP that features a couple soulful stompers, a touch of acid squelch and plenty of his trademarked deep house vibes.
LUKE VIBERT
Ridmik LP
(Hypercolour)
The UK dancefloor veteran returns with his first long-player since 2009, a wide-ranging set of retro-futuristic dance tunes that is lovingly held together by his go-to tool: loads of 303 acid.
GREEEN LINEZ
Hibiscus Pacific EP
(Alliance Upholstery)
Boogie duo Green Linez (a collaboration between Chris Greenberg and A Taut Line) enlist Cali Balearic pro Sorcerer, DFA’s Jacques Renault and analogue house recluse Moon B to remix their yacht-ready ‘Hibiscus Pacific’. Is it summer yet?
THE MIDNIGHT EPISODE
The Midnight Episode LP
(Ominra)
The debut from Nicola Cunningham and Karl Skagius (and the first album on Gunnar Wendel’s Ominira imprint) wanders through the darkness of classic British horror. Spooky ambience with some stunning artwork.
