The Melbourne-based producer explores ambient house and analogue techno on his new EP.
Kloke (aka Andy Donnelly) is a British ex-pat living in Australia. Following a 2012 release via Granholme, the Martyn-approved producer has teamed with Brooklyn’s Styles Upon Styles (which debuted last year with Archie Pelago’s Hall of Human Origins) for Sea Levels.
Living up to its title, the six-track EP follows “a narrative of apocalyptic tides and the oceanic sublime” and is heavy on “water-logged dread.” While ‘Mayfield’ and ‘Room With A View’ explore deep sea ambience with vinyl crackle and sub-bass doppler, tracks like ‘Flood’ and ‘Unlearning’ pummel with pneumatic rhythms and uneasy synth work; opener ‘Deep City’ and centerpiece ‘Ritual’ find grooves between the two poles.
Sea Levels is due out on April 22 in digital and limited vinyl formats; stream it below and pre-order it here.
