Ibiza’s got talent?

Remember way back in 2012 when we told you that Simon Cowell’s proposed DJ talent show had been cancelled (the word we used was “rejoice”)? Well forget what we said – according to British newspaper the Mirror, the show is about to rear its ugly head all over again.

Re-invigorated no doubt by the continuing success of EDM in the USA, Cowell’s show will now be going ahead, starting as an online competition and eventually branching out into a series of live performances and possibly more.

The show will be called Ultimate DJ and is a collaboration between Cowell’s own Syco Entertainment, cellphone giants T-Mobile and SFX Entertainment, the company that can claim at least partial responsibility for the current US EDM boom.

SFX CEO and notorious sleazoid Robert Sillerman said in a press release that “Bringing EMC (electronic music culture) to the world is our goal,” adding that “building a TV franchise in the USA is a key part of that strategy.”

It looks as if we’re in for a series of rags-to-riches stories then, with struggling DJs trying to find fortune on yet another reality show. We’re wondering who they’ll dig up to work as tutors – Jeff Mills giving quad deck training? Q-Bert teaching crabbing and juggling? We’ll probably end up with one of the Swedish House Mafia giving a class on pressing play, and Paris Hilton offering up fashion tips. Joy.
