Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner will perform and conduct his own classical composition ’41 Strings’ at London’s Southbank Centre this month. First performed back in 2011, the piece was written for the 41st anniversary of Earth Day for 45 musicians. Zinner plays guitar and conducts the four-part classical piece, which also featuring various electric and acoustic strings, including guitars, violins, violas, cellos and bass, as well as three drummers and synths.
For the debut UK performance of ’41 Strings, Zinner will be joined on stage by Romy Madley Croft of The xx, Gemma Thompson of Savages, Romeo Stodart of The Magic Numbers, Lindsey Troy of Deap Vally and Jeff Wootton and Seye from Damon Albarn’s band.
Other collaborators include Hisham Akira Bharoocha (Soft Circle, Boredoms), Ben Vida (Soft Circle), Brian Chase (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and string arranger Gillian Rivers. Young players from Southbank Sinfonia and Goldsmiths University complete the ensemble.
