Nu-rave veterans get to grips with the future of manufacturing?
With their third album Love Frequency set for release next Monday (June 16), Klaxons have revealed their plan to embark on “the world’s first 3D printed tour” this October, with all the instruments, lights and production supplied by a 3D printer.
The video below shows tech bod Jeffrey Royce from SJA 3D Printing explaining how his company plans to print guitars, amps, microphones and more for the band.
As James Klaxon points out, “traditional instruments have been around for ages now, and it’s time to use some new technology.” Er, right then.
Disappointingly, the prototype guitar they’ve come up looks exactly like a Fender Stratocaster. “It’s kind of just like a real guitar, but… not,” says Simon.
It’s all a bit fishy. The fact that neither SJA 3D Printing nor Jeffrey Royce appear to have any sort of web presence has got us even more suspicious, but A+ for effort anyway, lads.
The tour kicks off in late October with nine dates across the UK, culminating at London’s Shepherds Bush Empire on November 4 – tickets go on sale this Friday, June 13, at 10am. Love Frequency is out on Akashic Rekords/Sony Red next week and is currently streaming over at the Guardian.
