Lo-fi oddballs Half Japanese have announced their first new album in 13 years.
Led by original member Jad Fair with Mick Hobbs, Gilles Reider, John Sluggett and Jason Willett, the untuned art-rockers return this year with Overjoyed. Produced by Deerhoof’s John Dietrich, the album is out via Joyful Noise on September 3.
Half Japanese’s 1980 debut album Half Gentleman/Half Beasts still stands as a high watermark of post-punk experimentalism (and one of FACT’s favourite records of that decade). Since their last album, 2001’s power-pop effort Hello, the band have been the focus of a slew of releases and retrospectives, including Fire Records’ huge reissue series last year. [via The Wire]
