Australian avant-gardist rallies the troops.
Guitarist and percussionist Oren Ambarchi has detailed his next album on Editions Mego, a continuous 47-minute piece recorded in locations all over the world with a sprawling cast of musicians.
Among the guests on Quixotism is Jim O’Rourke, a regular collaborator who most recently joined Ambarchi and Keiji Haino on 2013’s improvised session Now While It’s Still Warm Let Us Pour In All The Mystery.
Minimal techno master Thomas Brinkmann also makes an appearance, along with Matt Chamberlain, Crys Cole, Eyvind Kang, John Tilbury, U-zhaan and Ilan Volkov & the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra. The album was recorded in Cologne, Reykjavik, Melbourne, Seattle, London, Los Angeles and Tokyo, as The Wire reports.
Quixotism is out on September 29 via Editions Mego – peep the excellent cover art below. Ambarchi will drop into London’s Corsica Studios for a performance a week earlier, on September 21.
