Disclosure collaborator and US hitmaker join Madge in the studio.
Diplo has revealed that producers MNEK and Ariel Rechtshaid are involved in the next Madonna album.
MNEK, the 19-year-old songwriter who’s had a major hand in the sound of the UK charts over the past year through his work with the likes of Rudimental, Clean Bandit and Gorgon City, has teamed up with Vampire Weekend and Sky Ferreira producer Rechtshaid to work out the verses of a song for the pop veteran, and Rechtshaid has also joined Diplo and Madge for their studio sessions.
The Mad Decent boss reveals the collaboration in his Billboard cover feature this week, adding that he and the pop veteran have had three studio sessions of their own so far.
“One [song] is super weird,” says Diplo. “Late one night in the studio we got a little bit drunk and she improvised a little hook and we made a song out of it. I think it’s going to be a breakthrough if she can manage to get everything together and get it out properly.”
Madonna also sent him a “20-page text” with notes about a bunch of songs he’d sent her, and one of the tracks they’re writing “is on like version 20,” he add. “It went from a piano ballad to a ‘Turn Down for What’-style song, which I didn’t like. Now it’s somewhere in the middle.”
FACT’s Chal Ravens spoke to Rechtshaid last year to find out how he produced a string of hits for Usher, Haim and Vampire Weekend.
