PMR – the Island-backed pop label behind some of the biggest breakouts of the last few years – introduces its baby brother.
Founded in 2011, PMR made a big impression quickly, putting out releases from Jessie Ware, Julio Bashmore, L-Vis 1990 and Disclosure, and slotting easily into our best labels of 2012 rundown as a result. They’ve since scored a mega-smash with Disclosure’s Settle LP – and with Ware’s second album on the way, they’ve likely got another unit-shifter in them.
The label have snipped the ribbon on a new sub-label, PMR Beat Club. The imprint promises a varied grab-bag of “young music makers pushing things in new directions”. Their first signing is Polish nipper Klaves, who toured with Nicolas Jaar earlier this year. His debut 12”, ‘People’ / ‘Oh No’, offers pressure-cooked jazzy house; anyone with a soft spot for Gerry Read and ∆∆’s output for Fourth Wave should be in their element.
‘People’ / ‘Oh No’ drops on October 12 on digital, with a physical version due on October 27.
