The Cyclist returns with Flourish on All City

Another round of irresistible “tape throb” from the Northern Irish outlier.

Last year The Cyclist seduced us with Bones In Motion, an album of “gauzy melodic techno… submerged in tape distortion”, as praised by FACT’s Angus Finlayson. The good news is that the Derry producer born Andrew Morrison returns for another lap this November with his second album proper (not including 2011’s Bending Brass cassette) on Dublin’s All City label.

As JunoPlus reports, the seven-track Flourish is billed by the label as a more accomplished set of “pure pedal power” (we get it) which “may fit into a lot of genres but doesn’t fully belong in any”. More specifically, it’s “lo-fi but not cheap, D.I.Y but not primitive, dancey but not clubby, 4-4 but not straight”.

Flourish is out on November 10. Earlier this year Morrison adopted the name of Buz Ludzha for a 12″ of fuzzed-up vintage house, Love Repetitive Rhythmics.
