M. Geddes Gengras has been working in a variety of different modes over the last few years.
Whether recording with freak-rock outfit Thousands, LA Vampires or with dub pioneers The Congos, Gengras’s connecting thread throughout every recording is a deep sense of involvement in the music he hooks himself into. His latest full-length is no different, and follows 2013’s excellent Collected Works Vol. 1 The Moog Years, this time exploring New Process Music.
Again released on the Umor Rex imprint, this latest volume is focused entirely on Gengras’s modular synth setup and instead of recording material and then editing in post, the recordings were actually deceptively simple. Only a small Eurorack synth and magnavox tape echo were used, and the recordings are far more raw as a result.
You can hear stand-out track ‘The Last Time We Were Here’ below; Collected Works Vol. 2 New Process Music will be released on November 18 via Umor Rex.
