Spotify and Uber team up to let passengers stream their own music in the car

Something tells us cabbies aren’t going to like this.

Uber has teamed up with Spotify to let passengers stream their own playlists during their cab ride.

The taxi-hailing service has been adding a few new features to its mobile app as part of the partnership, according to screenshots obtained by TechCrunch. The first shows a message to drivers asking if their cars support auxiliary audio input, and the other shows the passenger’s interface with a music console showing song titles and artists.

Both companies have used technology to disrupt their respective industries, with Spotify facing the ire of artists like Taylor Swift and Thom Yorke, who have both removed their music from the service, while Uber has battled opposition from regulators and drivers who argue that the app’s fare calculation tool is equivalent to a fare meter, which only black cabs are allowed to use.
