Drone master Black To Comm returns to Type with surreal self-titled opus

Black To Comm presents a sprawling opus of surreal drone magic.

Master of drone Marc Richter returns to Type next month with a follow-up to his exploratory and exhilarating 2009 album Alphabet 1968.

Over the past few years the Hamburg artist has been busy operating his label, Dekorder, and releasing several projects including the 2012 film soundtrack EARTH and a collaborative album on Digitalis, but now he unveils a weighty double album built from fearsome noise generators, trippy vocal snippets, rumbling organs and zoned-out seances.

“There are real songs hidden somewhere, but disintegrated by Richter’s sound manipulation techniques and dissolved into soupy extended drone marathons,” notes the label, highlighting the album’s 20-minute centrepiece ‘Is Nowhere’.

The self-titled album has been mastered and cut by Matt Colton and comes with artwork by Andreas Diefenbach. It’s bring pressed in a limited double vinyl run for release on December 8 through Type (a label independently operated by FACT’s John Twells).
