Sick of all that mixing taking up valuable Jesus pose time?
Well, your prayers have been answered. As we move into a world in which a DJ’s ability to actually DJ is seemingly (and sadly) becoming less and less important, Thalmic Labs’ new invention will provide more “visually inclined” (read: wanker) DJs with unprecedented opportunities to perfect their fist pump technique.
Thalmic Labs’ Myo device will allow you to control your set hands-free, utilising a muscle-controlled armband that can be synced to your mixer or light show. The Myo allows the DJ to interact with their mixer or lighting set-up through ‘controlled’ arm movements, that look to be a combination of relentless flailing and fist pumps.
The device is compatible with a variety of tools including Ableton, Serato, Traktor Garage Band and Logic Pro and allows the DJ to control various functions including pitch, tone, volume and tempo.
The new product is endorsed by none other than trance megastar Armin Van Buuren, who you can see testing the device in a video below.
“I always love to involve new ideas into my show” said Van Buuren. “Crowd interaction is absolutely key to me and the Myo helps me with this. It can create a unique experience for the clubber and it feels like I’m even closer to them.”
In terms of signs of the times, this one is right up there.
