Carla Bruni-Sarkozy is putting together French Band Aid with Vanessa Paradis, Lou Doillon and more

The former First Lady of France helms another charity single.

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy is putting together a French version of Band Aid to raise money for the campaign to fight Ebola in west Africa.

The model/singer/wife of Nicolas Sarkozy has recruited singer Vanessa Paradis, Téléphone rocker Louis Bertignac, Lou Doillon (daughter of Jane Birkin), guitarist Jean-Louis Aubert, jazzy singer-songwriter Zaz, experimental rock band Shaka Ponk, rock singer Izia Higelin, jazz guitarist Thomas Dutronc (son of Jacques Dutronc), rock band BB Brunes and rapper Joey Starr to appear on ‘Noël est là’ (‘Christmas is here’). The track is being released by Mercury Music Group, part of Universal.

Initial reports suggested Daft Punk would be involved, but unsurprisingly they’re staying out of the spotlight once again, according to Mercury’s statement on the participating artists. ‘Noël est là’ will be released on December 1 and will be accompanied by a video, presumably the usual hands-on-headphones thing filmed inside the studio. All proceeds will go to Band Aid.

Bob Geldof’s Band Aid 30 reboot has been mired in controversy, with Ghana-born Afrobeats star Fuse ODG turning down an offer to appear on the single after being “shocked and appalled” by the song’s new lyrics. [via Guardian]
