Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city film gets a release date

The short film will be exhibited at the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art.

m.A.A.d, the short film based on Kendrick Lamar’s 2012 opus good kid, m.A.A.d city was premiered earlier this year as part of the Sundance film festival. Commissioned by Lamar himself and directed by Khalil Joseph, the film aims to capture the feeling of modern Los Angeles explored in the album.

m.A.A.d is now set for a wider release, following confirmation that the film will screen at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles from March 21 to July 27.

“Kahlil Joseph’s double-screen projection m.A.A.d is a lush portrait of contemporary Los Angeles,” states the museum’s website. “From barbershops to marching bands, from homeboys drinking in the streets to the iconic carpet of shimmering lights, the camera in m.A.A.d sinuously glides through predominantly African-American neighborhoods in Los Angeles, catching a dizzying array of quotidian moments suffused with creativity, joy, and sadness.”

Lamar is reportedly in the studio working on his follow-up to good kid, m.A.A.d city, set to be released next year.
