The devoted record collector and Eglo label boss shares his journey with Benji B.
Floating Points was one of a bunch of esteemed artists invited to give a lecture at last month’s Red Bull Music Academy in Tokyo, and now his lengthy chat is available to watch in full. In it, Sam Shepherd recalls his early exposure to classical music and jazz, the influence of London club Plastic People on his career, his dedication to record collecting and the concept behind his new custom DJ mixer.
He also talks about founding Eglo with Rinse FM DJ Alexander Nut and his recent experience recording with Moroccan gnawa musician Mahmoud Guinia.
Stream it in full above or head to RBMA to zoom in on specific topics in the lecture. We’d also recommend Untold’s recent RBMA lecture, where you can hear some brand new music from the producer.
Meanwhile, Floating Points is gearing up to play London’s Troxy on New Year’s Day alongside Joy Orbison and Boddika.
