The Atlanta rapper has urged Americans to carry on Dr. King’s work.
January 19 is Martin Luther King Day in the United States. To honour the occasion, Killer Mike has published an op-ed for Questlove’s Okayplayer website.
In the piece, Killer Mike discusses Dr. King’s legacy and urges readers to continue his work, particularly in light of recent events in Ferguson and elsewhere around the country. Below is Killer Mike’s resounding closing statement:
“Be willing to fight–with your life if need be–for the freedom, justice and liberation of all against tyranny and the war machine that these countries and corporations force upon us and call ‘normal’. We don’t need more depictions of Martin as anything other than what he was–and what we have to become to ever realize his dream of the eradication poverty, miseducation, inequality and war,” he concluded. “We have to be revolutionaries and nothing less.”
