The Bristol-based dub expert steps out with his biggest release to date.
Although he started off as one half of Punch Drunk duo Zhou, Ishan Sound is one of the less prolific members of Bristol’s Young Echo collective – though his music has attracted the attention of the right people so far.
Last year he turned up on Pinch’s Tectonic Recordings with the Namkha EP, which introduced his dubwise take on Bristol’s soundsystem culture to a wider audience. Now the producer is gearing up to deliver his biggest collection of tracks to date on Bristol’s Peng Sound, the label he made his debut on back in 2013. Out next week, the self-titled double vinyl release features a whopping eight tracks.
As well as delivering the kind of classic bass-heavy, dub-informed tracks to be expected from the producer, Tape-Echo promises the release will contain two tracks with additional production from fellow Young Echo member Vessel that venture “into the darker, powerful side of steppers,” which are “sure to send a soundboy off into the distance whilst the walls of Babylon sink into a hot bed of lava.”
If that has you intrigued, you can stream ‘Saviour’ below while you wait for the record’s release on February 23.
