The Italian techno producer explores his alter ego with a murky new record.

Davide Carbone is best known for making music under his own name and releasing others’ through Repitch, a label he runs with recent FACT Mix contributor Shapednoise. There is another side to Carbone’s work however.

The moniker Honzo has been a sort of mask Carbone dons when he wants to explore the eerier and more industrial aspects of his sound. The project began as a split single (with himself) in 2013, but now Honzo has been given free reign on Das Unheimliche, an entire 12″ of creeping techno. Throughout Honzo maintains a consistent unease creating something as burnt and beatless as opener ‘Il Doppio’ or as anxious and jittery as ‘Uncanny Valley’. Surprisingly it’s only when he mixes both, like in the closing highlight ‘Gemello di te stesso’, that some brightness finally leaks through.

Da Unheimliche is available through Haunter Records February 25 on vinyl as well as an expanded cassette release which includes an additional four tracks. Stream it and watch a video for the opening track ‘Il Doppio’ below.
