The rapper-turned-reality TV star claims it’s “a misunderstanding.”
Yesterday (February 18) 47-year-old rapper Vanilla Ice – whose real name is Robert Van Winkle – was arrested in connection with a burglary in Florida, TMZ reports.
The Lantana Police Department told reporters the burglary – which involved the theft of furniture, a pool heater, bicycles and other items – was in connection with his reality TV show The Vanilla Ice Project. The DIY Network show involves the rapper renovating houses on the cheap, and it seems he got himself into trouble on his latest project, entering an abandoned home and helping himself to the items.
As NBC Miami reports, Van Winkle was later released from jail, saying: “It’s a misunderstanding, it was blown out of proportion. It’s sad that good news doesn’t travel this fast. It’s just out of proportion and I wish you guys would focus on all the good things I’ve done. It’ll all get cleared up, you’ll see.”
This isn’t the first time the Juggalo and former boyfriend of Madonna has been in trouble with the law. Back in 1991 he was arrested on firearms charges for threatening a homeless man with a gun, and was arrested in both 2001 and 2008 for assaulting his wife. In 2007, he was caught driving with an expired license, and most bizarrely, was fined $220 in 2004 by animal control officials, after his pet wallaby Bucky and pet goat Pancho were caught on the loose with an expired permit.
