West was honored alongside Usher, Microsoft chairman John Thompson and more.

BET aired their annual BET Honors event this evening, celebrating the lives and achievements of African American luminaries. This year’s event honoured Usher, Microsoft chairman John Thompson, Phylicia Rashad, National Museum of African Art director Johnnetta B. Cole and Kanye West.

West was introduced by Roc-a-Fella Records co-founder Damon Dash. who spoke about West’s courage, and the bravery it took for West to invite Dash given their past problems. A video was then aired paying tribute to Kanye, featuring interviews with Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar, Common and more.

“Well seeing that, I think for maybe one of the first times in my life I understand how it is to feel humble,” West said after watching the tribute video. [via Pitchfork]
