Kendrick has revealed that To Pimp a Butterfly is the official title of his next album, in a new interview with Rolling Stone.
The album is expected to feature the Isley Brothers-sampling ‘i’, the take-no-prisoners ‘The Blacker The Berry’ and possibly the song he debuted on The Colbert Report. Kendrick hinted at the title in an Instagram post last night [below], and confirmed it in today’s interview.
While iTunes has not revealed a full tracklist yet, some information has been gleaned. To Pimp a Butterfly will be a double album featuring 16 tracks spanning just under 80 minutes. ‘The Blacker The Berry’ is the only confirmed track so far and it comes at number 13. Though nearly every track on the album runs 4-5 minutes, the final song runs more than 12.
Lamar’s previous album, Good Kid m.A.A.d. City, topped our best albums of 2012 list and ranked very high on our best albums of the decade so far feature last year.
