3 Impressions is entirely made with Moog synths and effects.
Moog has announced the discontinuation of two models in its Moogerfooger effect module line, but has offered up a free three-track EP from synth explorer M. Geddes Gengras to soften the blow.
3 Impressions features music made by the Umor Rex artist exclusively with Moog gear, including the Sub Phatty synth, MF-104Z delay and MF-108M flange unit. It also makes use of the MF-105M MIDI MuRF filter array and the MF-107 Freq Box, which are the models discontinued by Moog this week.
Though the EP is rather dryly outlined as an “exploration of analog effects modules and process-based sound design,” 3 Impressions is a lot better than the description makes out – it sounds a lot like Bernard Szajner’s lost 1979 synth classic Visions of Dune, with all the gurgling analog textures and epic synth prog you’d expect.
