You can now use a MIDI controller without the need for special software.
The most recent stable version of Google’s Chrome browser now includes MIDI support, meaning developers will now be able to make applications that make use of MIDI-enabled musical hardware.
While most of the browser applications we’ve seen recently have made use of your computer’s keyboard, the new Web MIDI API means websites will be able to communicate with MIDI devices connected to a computer, tablet or smartphone.
If you want to try out the feature now, then the Web Audio MIDI Synthesizer is a good place to start. If you don’t have a MIDI controller, you can still use this browser drum machine with your mouse and keyboard. [via Engadget]
