The upcoming film is titled It Doesn’t Have to Rhyme.
Rapper-turned-filmmaker RZA has directed an upcoming feature film that stars Azealia Banks, Common and Jill Scott. It Doesn’t Have to Rhyme is billed as an inspirational musical drama “in a similar in tone to 8 Mile“.
The film follows the story of a female rapper (played by Banks) who develops a passion for slam poetry after enrolling in a course at college. Jill Scott plays a professor who believes that rapping and slam poetry cannot co-exist whilst Common plays a mentor figure.
It Doesn’t Have to Rhyme is RZA’s second feature-length film following his 2012 kung fu homage The Man with the Iron Fists, which starred Russell Crowe. [via The Hollywood Reporter]
