On Saturday May 30, Sleeping Bag Records brought the disco to Brooklyn.
Closing the month-long Red Bull Music Academy festival in New York City was a party dedicated to Arthur Russell’s influential Sleeping Bag Records label. From 1981 to 1992, the imprint drew parallels between house, disco and early hip-hop, and Russell’s pioneering vision was celebrated at Brooklyn’s Good Room.
Storm Queen Morgan Geist, Kurtis Mantronik and Nicky Siano handled the main room and brought to mind the early days of house, while room two gave a classic hip-hop tribute to the sister label Fresh Records with Chairman Mao, EPMD DJ Scratch and The Awesome 2.
FACT’s Maxwell Schiano and contributing photographer Matthew Vega were there to capture the event – check out the photos below.
