The battery inside the Beats Pill XL speaker is prone to overheating.

If you’re the owner of a Beats Pill XL wireless speaker, then you might want to read on – Apple has recalled the speaker over concerns its battery poses a fire risk.

“Apple has determined that, in rare cases, the battery in the Beats Pill XL may overheat and pose a fire safety risk,” the company said in a press release. According to a statement from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission eight of the units have overheated, causing burns to one user.

The product was originally launched in 2013. This was before Apple bought Beats for $3 billion last year, but it’s still Apple’s responsibility to make sure your house doesn’t burn down, so if you have a potentially defective unit, you should send it back to Apple for a refund of $325 – an amount that includes an additional $25 to help ensure the recall doesn’t put you off buying Beats goods for life. You can find out more at the Apple website.

The embarrassing news comes at a bad time for Apple – the company is expected to launch its streaming service next week, and it wouldn’t be great PR if everyone’s Pill XL speakers blew up when they tried to use it. [via The Verge]
