This Saturday, Found’s new festival Born & Bred, which focuses on that UK music continuum that traces hardcore and jungle to grime, dubstep and more, sets up shop in Haggerston Park.
With around 50 acts spread over four stages – the Born & Bred main stage, Just Jam, Swamp81 and Wavey Garms – there’s a lot to see, so we’ve rounded up the five acts we’d be marking on our festival program. For more info on Born & Bred, head here.
Zed Bias presents Boss live
Last year, UK soundsystem vet Zed Bias shocked the, er, UK soundsystem world by announcing his retirement from DJing. A few months later, mix ‘n’ blend became bait ‘n’ switch when he revealed that he was quitting DJing to focus on a new show – a four-person live interpretation of Zed’s Boss LP with drum machines and analogue synths. It was debuted back in January, but this marks one of your first chances to see it in summer festival mode.
T. Williams as Dread D
T. Williams might be best known for excelling at both the rough (‘Anthem’, ‘Break Broke’) and festival-friendly (‘Think of You’, ‘Privilege’) house tunes, but his background is grime – as Dread D, he was part of Jon E Cash’s important Black Ops crew, and he’s still got the dubplates to prove it. If you’ve seen the bags he brought to his grime set at Boiler Room, then you know this should be special – plus, B Live!
Digital Mystikz
With the DMZ club-night they co-run celebrating its 10th birthday this summer, Digital Mystikz’ finely-tuned soundsystem music is as refreshing and rewarding as ever. Plus, it’s a chance to hear those DMZ dubplates that barely anyone else has – and when is that ever not a treat?
The Heatwave
Sure, Zinc, Wiley and Goldie look like the big draws from that main stage, but we doubt anyone will take the crowd to school quite like the Heatwave. The long-running dancehall night is basically as fun as live music gets in the capital, and this Saturday should be no different.
OGz
A lot of the eyes at the Just Jam stage will be on up-and-comers The Square, but no crews – Boy Better Know aside – shut down a rave quite like P Money and co. Expect rushes to the front and sheer authority from the very first bar.
