Aïsha Devi’s label returns with more “ritual music”.
Danse Noire has announced details of its next release, a four-track EP from Milan-based producer Haf Haf.
According to a press release, the Taylor Swift-baiting This Sick Beat EP was made in the free time between completing his physics thesis and his work as a janitor in a housing project, his time in the studio reflecting the woes caused by “years of neoliberal austerity”.
Available to preview below, the EP consists of three sludgy, warped techno cuts together with a rare remix from US duo Gatekeeper, who transform ‘Blue Dragon’ with a digital choir and hefty acid bassline. It follows the artist’s debut release for the Italian collective Gang of Ducks early last year.
This Sick Beat is released on June 29, and is the label’s first since last year’s Theories of Anxiety EP from Portuguese artist IVVVO. Haf Haf’s sound fits comfortably under the “ritual music” banner of Devi’s label, which has also released music from herself and like-minded artists including Vaghe Stelle and El Mahdy Jr.
