Last night Markus Popp aka Oval picked up the prestigious Qwartz Award, a prize that recognises innovation in electronic music – previous winners include Derrick May, Björk and Wolfgang Voigt.
To celebrate, the glitch maestro has made his digital back catalogue free to download through his Bandcamp page for the next six hours. It’s not a complete discography, but the records on offer span from 1998’s Aero Deko EP to 2013’s Calidostópia! and Voa. Also, you don’t have to pay nothing – it’s Name Your Price. So don’t take the piss.
A couple of years ago we sat down with Popp to talk about the “commercial suicide” of his ambient masterpiece, 94Diskont. Naturally, Oval appeared pretty high in FACT’s rundown of the 100 greatest IDM tracks.
To celebrate my QWARTZ award, all my Bandcamp digital releases are FREE for the next 6 hours. https://t.co/DjWEJdznDR pic.twitter.com/wkn72Rcsx4

Yay! I won the QWARTZ music award. No 25.000 € modular synth, no “Blue Man Group”-esque live show. I got it just for my music, imagine that. — Markus Popp (@markuspopp_oval) June 11, 2015
