Following the Foo Fighters’ cancellation, Florence + The Machine will headline Glastonbury’s Friday night slot.
In the words of festival organiser Emily Eavis, “Once we heard the sad news that Foo Fighters had been forced to pull out, there was only one person we wanted to call and that was Florence.”
“Every time she has played here she’s done something spectacular and we always knew she would headline the Pyramid one day. I’m delighted she’s agreed to step up to it – she’s going to smash it!”
The Foo Fighters pulled out after Dave Grohl broke a leg on stage in Sweden earlier this month. As Grohl put it, in an open letter on the Foo Fighters website, “the doctors have told us to cancel shows. I’m really so sorry, guys. You know I hate to do it, but I’m afraid it’s just not physically possible for me at the moment. We’re doing our best right now to work out a plan, so bear with us. You know we’re good for our word. But for now, I need to make sure we have YEARS of gigs ahead of us.”
Blur and The Stone Roses were among the other bands rumoured to be taking the Foo Fighters’ slot.
