Lisbon collective Filho Único have announced a special one-day festival headlined by grime star Skepta.
The BBK rep joins a cast of local talent at Festival Zona Não Vigiada, including DJ Lilocox & DJ Maboku, aka CDM, two of the most influential figures in the city’s burgeoning ‘batida’ club sound, who released their Malucos de Raiz EP on Principe Discos this February and have since taken part in Just Jam’s Barbican takeover.
DJ Firmeza will also represent the Principe label ahead of his debut solo 12″ in October, while the rest of the bill includes electronic producers Iguanas, Upset The Rhythm’s punk sisters Pega Monstro, and established Portugese guitarist Norberto Lobo.
The festival takes place in Chelas, one of the deprived ghettos in the city populated by many families from Portugal’s former African colonies, and where the raucous ‘batida’ club music spearheaded by the likes of Lilocox & Maboku is taking hold. Filho Único was asked to put together the one-day festival to accompany the launch of a new theatre space in Chelas.
The event runs from 3-9pm on September 26 – you don’t need a ticket, but you can find out more on the event’s Facebook page.
