Never forget about Dre.
Update: The album will stream exclusively on Apple Music this Thursday from 6PM – 9PM PT.
Update, 8/6: Dre told Zane Lowe will be donating all of his royalties from Compton to help fund a new arts and entertainment facility in Compton.
Following a surprise announcement earlier this week from Ice Cube that hinted at Dr. Dre’s long-awaited return, the good doctor himself has confirmed the follow up to 1999’s The Chronic 2001.
Titled Compton: The Soundtrack, the album is up for pre-order on iTunes and has an official release date of August 7. This places it a week ahead of Straight Outta Compton, the movie that supposedly inspired it.
Details of the album were confirmed by Dre on the latest episode of his Beats 1 radio show, The Pharmacy, where he was joined by Ice Cube and the movie’s director, F. Gary Gray.
During the show Dre also admitted that he had scrapped Detox, the name of his long-rumoured follow up album, because he didn’t like it.
You can listen back to the latest episode of The Pharmacy via Apple Connect.
The tracklist for Compton: The Soundtrack shows the album’s guests include rising L.A. singer Anderson Paak (last seen collaborating with Knxwledge for Stones Throw) alongside some more obvious names such as Kendrick Lamar, Snoop, Eminem and Xzibit.
