The top tracks, artists, and genres for July are in.
Apple’s Beats 1 radio has been live for over a month now, and Quartz have taken it upon themselves to analyse what the most played artists, genres and tracks have been.
The data, taken from early July to early August, shows that, predictably, The Weeknd put in the most appearances, with 180 plays. Drake, Disclosure, Fetty Wap and Jamie xx followed, reflecting the male-dominated trend of the top 20.
Hip-hop was the most played genre on the station, while the vague “alternative” and “electronic” genres took the second and third spot. Techno came last, managing a paltry 10 plays over the month.
The most played track also belonged to The Weeknd with ‘Can’t Feel My Face’, while Halsey’s ‘New Americana’ and Selena Gomez’s ‘Good For You’ followed. The data also showed that the number of tracks played per day stayed roughly the same, expect at weekends when they spiked upwards – Quartz believes this is because of the increased number of DJ mix shows during those hours.
The song data was collected by Callum Jones, the programmer responsible for the recent Twitter account that tweets all Beats 1 songs in real time. The open source tool used to collate that stats can be found at GitHub. [via 9to5Mac]
