The New York polymath has had his hands full lately.
Purple Tape Pedigree’s Geng wears many hats — label boss, DJ, event curator, producer — always bringing together people and music from different worlds. That’s certainly the case with his most recent bootlegs, which gird underground rap tracks with club-ready instrumentals by the likes of Rabit and DJ NJ Drone.
His latest “bootledit” mashes King Louie favorite ‘Val Venis’ and Celestial Trax’s percussive ‘Piece By Piece’ (off last month’s Vaxxilate EP), taking the original’s menace to a new dancefloor. Stream it below.
For more music like this, don’t miss Purple Tape Pedigree’s monthly show on Radar Radio. New Yorkers don’t have to rely on radio only: Geng shares a bill with Lee Bannon this Friday, and his stellar DWMS series continues on August 22 with a loaded bill that features Mr. Mitch (making his US debut), Neana (NYC debut), Akito (US debut) and Kieran Loftus — tickets are available for presale for a limited time.
