Erykah Badu has shared her own version of Drake’s ‘Hotline Bling’.
On last year’s track ‘Days In The East’, Drake rapped about visiting Erykah Badu’s home and talking “about love and what life could really be for [him]” over tea. Today, the legendary singer has shared a version of the Toronto rapper’s hit single ‘Hotline Bling’.
Badu’s version warps the song’s bouncy island refrain into a futuristic neo soul jam. The remix also samples a fake hotline message asking everyone from journalists to “people asking for free tickets even though they know she don’t fuck with you like that” to leave a message. Judging from the track’s description on Soundcloud, it may be taken from an upcoming mixtape named BUT U CAINT USE MY PHONE, the title a reference to her 1997 single ‘Tyrone’.
