Nine Inch Nails and Chic also get a nomination.
The organisers of the annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have revealed the longlist for next year’s ceremony, with NWA, Janet Jackson, The Smiths and Nine Inch Nails among those selected.
Also listed alongside are Chic, Chicago, Cheap Trick, Deep Purple, The Cars, Chaka Khan, The JB’s, Los Lobos, Steve Miller, The Spinners and prog rock survivors Yes.
The final list of inductees will be confirmed in December, but fans can vote online for their preferred choice – the winner will make up one of the six acts. It’s not the first time NWA or Chic have been nominated, with four and 10 nods respectively.
Last year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame saw Joan Jett, Lou Reed, Green Day, Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band and Bill Withers inducted, while 2014 saw the inclusion of Nirvana and Peter Gabriel. [via NME]
