Amy Winehouse’s father has announced his plan to film an alternative documentary about his daughter’s life.
Mitch Winehouse has been critical of Asif Kapadia’s documentary about the singer, Amy, which was released to record-breaking box office sales in July, dismissing the film as “misleading” and now he wants to tell his side of the story.
“All of the people who weren’t in [Kapadia’s] film are hopping mad,” Winehouse told news agency Bang Showbiz. “They want their voices to be heard. We don’t want to be like Asif, we’ll let people say what they want, but we don’t want it to be negative.”
He added: “We hope to start work fairly shortly on it. But it’s going to be more than just a film.”
The singer’s former fiance Reg Traviss is also involved in the project, which Winehouse says will be a more positive portrayal of his daughter’s life.
“There are so many great things in Amy’s life that were missed in that film. It was a great opportunity that Asif Kapadia had and he didn’t grab it,” he said. “We meet at least every month: Amy’s dearest friends, Reg, and me, and we sit there, and the stories that we tell are brilliant. People don’t realise everybody’s got 100 stories about Amy, and that’s the kind of thing that we’re going to try and do.”
Meanwhile the soundtrack to Amy is set for release this Friday, featuring features Antonio Pinto’s cues for the film and a selection of rarities.
